It’s been a very busy month for us here at Whisky & Comics! The last weekend of March we attended a fundraiser whisky tasting for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada. But not just any tasting! It was a blind tasting where we matched our 6 samples to comic book characters! We were given cards of each character drawn by local artists complete with stats on the back. Malt troll (aka Dave Parker) lead us through each whisky: Cardhu 12, Antiquary, Macallan Gold, Dalmore Cigar Malt Reserve, Auchentoshan Three Wood, and Talisker Storm. These were matched with Wolverine, Lady Blackhawk, Nick Fury, Tony Stark/Iron Man, Bruce Wayne/Batman and Lex Luthor. I’ll let you figure out how they were paired ;). Our favourite from the evening was definitely the Dalmore Cigar Malt. The winner got to take home some great swag and there was a silent auction as well. If you’re in Edmonton be sure to check out the upcoming tastings. They’re all held at Happy Harbor Comics which is an awesome store so even if you can’t make it to a tasting be sure to check this place out.

Then in mid-April we took part in a national Twitter tasting hosted by the amazing Johanne MacInnis. This was a blind tasting and each team (we were the Dramtastic Duo) had to answer a set of questions which were scored by Johanne. All teams then discussed their whisky using the #C2CC (Coats to Coast Canada). Each team received one of three different samples, but all were from the same distiller Glenfarclas. Team Dramtastic Duo came in third out of the teams with our particular sample!

The best part though was the surprise visit from Action Geologist’s parents! It came at just the right time too because we had just found out that we have to move for work so guess who got enlisted to help pack boxes? Parents are the best! So yes the Whisky & Comics team are moving out of our small mountain town to a slightly larger town where there is actually a comic store and a liquor store with more than just Molson Canadian. We will miss those happy mountains but this feels like the right move. It might even give us more time to blog!

Our fun-filled, adventure packed month doesn’t end there though! There’s still the Calgary Expo to tell you all about! Check out Part 2 for the rest of the story!
